Herpes zoster and herpes simplex can be distinguished in terms of etiology, course, symptoms, and treatment.
Herpes zoster is caused by the varicella zoster virus, whereas herpes simplex is caused by the herpes simplex virus. The duration of herpes simplex is usually 14-21 days and is not likely to recur. In contrast, herpes simplex usually lasts 7-10 days and is prone to recurrence.
Herpes zoster presents as a band of vinegar-distributed blisters on one side of the body or one side of the face, with localized severe neuralgia. Herpes simplex, on the other hand, is associated with limited, clustered small blisters at the junction of the skin and mucous membranes that break easily, with burning and itching.
The treatments for the two are also different.
Herpes simplex can be treated with antiviral therapy with medications such as acinovir and lack of octreotide as prescribed by your doctor.
Herpes simplex is treated with antiviral therapy and nerve-nourishing drugs such as vitamin B1 and methocarbamol under medical supervision for severe pain, and acetaminophen and gunpowder ketone hydrochloride under medical supervision for pain management.
Patients with these symptoms should go to the hospital promptly for a clear diagnosis and treatment.
