"I have three identities, one is a doctor who sees tumors, the second is a cancer patient, and the third is a survivor who has beaten the cancer. These multiple identities make me feel that it is possible to live with cancer and to live a new life." These are the words of Xu Kecheng after he developed cancer.
Xu Kecheng was born in Jiangsu in 1940. In 2006, after more than 40 years of research on tumors, he developed liver cancer. As an oncologist, he did not give up, but faced the cancer head on and worked hard to research new treatments, eventually fighting the cancer successfully and living with it.
Now that 17 years have passed, 83-year-old Professor Xu is still red-faced, hale and hearty. 17 years have passed without a recurrence of cancer, and he continues to work on the front lines of treatment, bringing hope to the majority of cancer patients. So how did Professor Xu succeed in his fight against cancer?

I. Mother and best friend passed away from cancer, determined to fight cancer to the end

01. As a doctor, but couldn't save his own mother
In 1970, Xu Kecheng was still a fledgling resident. One day, his mother suddenly came to him while he was checking in at the hospital, and after just a few months of not seeing her, she looked very haggard and came with her hands painfully covering her right upper abdomen. He immediately felt that something was not right and felt his mother's upper right abdomen and found a huge lump pushing the upper right abdomen very high, a typical sign of liver cancer!
Not surprisingly, his mother was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer, and as a doctor, there was nothing he could do but watch her die. He began to study liver cancer after that, and gradually built up his knowledge of tumors.
In 1998, Xu Kecheng went to visit his best friend, Chen Minzhang, who had not seen him for many years and was then the Minister of Health. When we talked about the topic of tumors, Chen Minzhang suggested that he open a tumor hospital and introduce new treatments. A few months later, his best friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away in less than a year. After that, he was determined to start an oncology hospital and fight to the end against cancer.

02, opened a cancer hospital, but suffered from liver cancer himself
In 2001, Xu Kecheng took his friend's wish and came south to Guangzhou to start the hospital, which was officially opened in 2003. The hospital's mission is to "practice medicine with virtue and medical ethics" and innovatively combines cryoablation, microvascular interventional therapy and combined immunotherapy into a new treatment model that has cured difficult cancer patients around the world, and Xu Kecheng was hailed by the Ministry of Health as the first person to use cryotherapy for cancer in China.
However, fate played a joke on Xu Kecheng when he was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma, a cancer with a five-year survival rate of no more than 3%, during a medical checkup in 2006. After undergoing several major surgeries he made a surprising decision.

II. After developing liver cancer at the age of 66, he made an amazing decision

01. After surgery, he refused chemotherapy and sought new treatment
After the diagnosis of liver cancer, Xu Kejing immediately underwent open surgery, and the left lobe of his liver, which was removed during surgery because the lesion grew in the inner segment of the left lobe. It accounted for about 25% of the entire liver. After the surgery, Xu Kecheng looked at and touched the removed liver tissue, and had an indescribable feeling in his heart.
This reminds him that he has seen many liver cancer patients in the past few years, some of whom have recurred a year or two after surgery, others in a few months, and almost all of these patients have received chemotherapy, and the tumors that recur after treatment are not single, but appear in clusters, and even have direct multi-organ metastases. This is an odd phenomenon, with many patients "metastasizing while undergoing chemotherapy.
To get to the bottom of this, Xu Kecheng has reviewed at least 10 years of research. Xu Kecheng has reviewed at least 1,000 papers over 10 years, but the results are disappointing. A survey that encompassed 57 studies involving 4,756 patients with liver cancer showed that postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy was not shown to be beneficial.
So he rejected postoperative chemotherapy, and he cautioned doctors not to give chemotherapy to patients willy-nilly, but to question more and consider whether it might prolong patients' survival or be counterproductive.

02, 17 years without recurrence, living with cancer
After refusing chemotherapy, Xu Kecheng figured out a way for himself and ended up with a multi-targeted combination immunotherapy that focuses on regulating innate immunity, along with supplemental hydrogen absorption for rehabilitation, and his therapy proved to be effective.
Now 17 years later, Xu Kecheng's cancer has not returned, and at 83 years old, President Xu Kecheng is still active on the front lines. In between, he has published popular science books such as "The Very Story", "Follow Me to Fight Cancer" and "Living with Cancer" to lead cancer patients to fight cancer scientifically. He also introduced argon helium knife cryoablation technology from the United States, which has brought new hope to countless cancer patients.
As a cancer patient, he has not only saved himself, but has given tens of thousands of cancer patients the courage to regain their confidence in life. Some patients with more difficult families, he also does what he can to help, so that patients do not lose the chance to live because of poor conditions.
He believes that cancer is not to be feared, and that the purpose of cancer treatment is different at different times. Early-stage patients naturally strive for a cure, and patients in the progressive stage can seek a model of living with cancer so that they can have a quality life. In contrast, patients with end-stage disease are advised to try to preserve the dignity of the patient.

3. 17 years of fighting cancer without recurrence, 5 insights worth learning

Professor Xu Kecheng, who has successfully fought cancer, has shared his insights on many occasions, and today he has compiled them to share with you.
1. The first thing to do to cure cancer is to cure the heart
There are many cancer patients who die not because of cancer, but because of the tremendous mental stress after cancer, which "scares" them to death. The company's main goal is to provide the best possible service to its customers.
2. Don't trust advertisements when you see a doctor

3, many cancers are eaten out
There is a great relationship between the occurrence of cancer and diet, people who eat too salty are prone to stomach cancer, too greasy are prone to colon cancer and so on. The most important thing is to eat a diet rich in dietary fiber and low in fat, and to minimize processed meat, red meat, and high-fat, high-calorie foods.
4. Keep working
Xu Kecheng is a "workaholic". He was half sitting and reading articles on the fifth day after surgery, and started discussing work with the same time 13 days later, and sometimes went back to the office to handle some things. He feels that work is the best therapy for him.
5. Balanced diet and exercise
Xu Kecheng walks more than 10,000 steps every day, and it is helpful to keep exercising to promote recovery and strengthen the body. The company's main goal is to provide a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables, high-protein foods, and coarse grains to keep the food as diverse as possible so that the body can consume different nutrients.
Cancer is fair for everyone, and just because you're a doctor doesn't mean you won't get it. In life, it is important to change some bad habits in time to prevent cancer as much as possible. Of course, if you are unfortunate enough to have cancer, you should face your condition positively and not be intimidated by the disease first.
