Many people cut their nails to pursue "short", like to cut against the meat, not leaving a trace of extra length. The company's main goal is to provide the best possible service to its customers.
The nail is not just a thin layer visible to the naked eye, it consists of multiple parts: the nail plate, the subcutaneous skin, the nail half-moon, and so on.
The part of the nail that needs to be trimmed is the nail plate, a solid layer of keratinized skin that protects the soft nail bed from damage during bumps and bruises.
Nails don't grow very fast, only about 3 mm a month, and if they are damaged and fall off, it can take up to three months, or even six months, to fully recover. So for the slow growing baby nails, we still need to be careful to protect it.
Everyone who cuts their nails either likes to scribble their hands and cut the sides to make puddles or be too meticulous and cut them bare, both of which are easy to handle and cause finger or toe damage.
1. The sides of the nail plate are too sharp
When the sides of the nail plate are not trimmed thoroughly, leaving sharp parts, as the nail grows, the sharp parts can pierce the surrounding skin, causing bacteria and fungi to take advantage of the situation and cause inflammation (or what we often call nail fungus).
2. The nail plate is cut too short
If the nail plate is trimmed too short, the surrounding elastic skin tissue, in turn, may wrap the nail plate around it. If the nail plate is deeply rooted in the flesh for a long time, then ingrown nails can find their way in.
Engrown nails tend to occur in the big toe, especially on the outside of the toe.
The early manifestations are swollen and painful toes. If not treated properly, inflammation of the toe can develop into redness and pus, and the pain can escalate, for example, even a gentle touch like covering a quilt can cause severe pain in the inflamed toe, and in some cases, even affect normal standing and walking.
So, the dangers of ingrown toenails should not be taken lightly. The first thing you need to do is to take care of your nails and watch out for these 3 high-risk factors that can trigger ingrown nails.
1. Wearing unsuitable shoes for a long time
Shoes that don't fit your feet and are too narrow in the front part of the shoe can easily squeeze your toes, and over time, ingrown toenails can form.
2. Trauma causes breakage of the toe
External forces such as kicking a soccer ball, collision, and smashing cause breakage of the toe, and when the nail bed or nail mother cells are damaged, the toenail can also become deformed, thus triggering ingrown toenails.
3. Obesity
Pregnant women or those who are overly obese have more pressure on their feet when walking, which is also a high risk factor for ingrown nails.
The problem of ingrown toenails can be big or small, so you can prevent it as much as possible to avoid the painful ordeal.
First of all, learn to cut your nails properly, not too deep, too round, or too bald, noting that one of the main points is to prefer a little too long to too short. The correct way to trim your nails is to cut them flat, leave them 1-2mm long, and then polish the edges slightly smooth.
Secondly, you should wear loose shoes so that you can walk comfortably and the environment for your toenails is not too cramped.
Finally, if you have a mild to moderate ingrown nail, be careful not to try to treat it yourself, but go to the hospital and use tools such as skim cotton and dental floss to assist in the treatment according to your doctor's diagnosis. In more serious cases, surgical tearing of the nail plate can be attempted.
Cutting your nails is a technical task, and learning to do it correctly can help you escape the painful ordeal of ingrown nails.
